The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has declared Saturday,22nd June ,2019 as the day for the conduct of bye elections for Ward 204 ,constituency 61 in Mambolo,Kambia District .
The NEC press release has stated that they have been informed by the Chief Administrator of the Kambia District Council that in a letter dated 29th March ,2019 that the vacancy had occurred as a result of the long absence of Amara Turay from meetings of the Council without any reason given to the Chairman of the Kambia District Council, pursuant to section 9(1) (d) of the 2004 Local Government Act .
NEC has stated that nominations for the said elections will hold on the 22nd and 23rd may,2019 in Kambia.
Reliable sources from Kambia have told this medium that the former holder of the position Amara Turay of the All Peoples Congress was suffering from madness since elected in March ,2018.He was according to sources healed and return back only to be affected again by the same sickness leading to him absenting himself from Council sittings.
It is not known whether the APC will continue to boycott from contesting the said elections based on an earlier position taken by both the APC and NGC to boycott all elections against the backdrop that the Chief Electoral Commissioner Nfa Alie resigns his position as NEC Chief Electoral Commissioner and National Returning Officer.
