By Janet Sesay
The Public Account Committee, on Tuesday 13th August 2018, has unearthed massive corruption at the Bombali District Council where billions of leones cannot be accounted for by the previous Chief Administrator and Finance Officer of the Council.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, told officials of the Bombali District Council that, in future, his committee will not tolerate late submission of financial documents. He stated that most of the Councils are in the habit of not producing justification for expended monies until audit exercises. These documents, he noted, are not real but manufactured for audit purposes.
The Chief Administrator, Bombali District Council, Madam Aminata Kargbo, was ordered to pay back fourteen million leones seven hundred and ninety thousand leones (Le14,790,000) into the Consolidated Revenue Fund as against 23rd August 2018 and bring the receipt to Parliament. Failing to do so, PAC has no option but to order her arrest and detention.
Mohamed Mustapha, Principal Auditor, revealed that, out of four hundred and thirty one million, seven hundred and fifty seven million leones (Le431,757,11) and supporting documents have been provided for transactions amounting to four hundred and sixteen thousand nine hundred and sixty seven thousand leones (Le416,967,11,). The unaccounted money is fourteen million, seven hundred and ninety thousand Leones (Le14,790,000).
