Assault on Journalist… Herbert George Williams In The Dock

 Herbert George Williams, former Mayor of Freetown, has, on Tuesday 29th May, 2018, made an appearance before Magistrate Santige Bangura of Court No 1 on allegations of conspiracy, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and malicious damage against Patrick Jaiah Kamara of the Concord Times Newspaper.

The details of the offence are that the accused, on the 31st March 2018, during the run-off election at Lumley, conspired together with other persons unknown to commit a crime to wit assault.

Details further recounted that the accused, on the same day and place, assaulted the complainant in a manner thereby occasioning him actual bodily harm and also  maliciously damaged one Cannon camera valued at one thousand, five hundred United States dollars.

During proceedings in court, the prosecutor, Inspector Isatu Gbassay Fofanah, sought for an adjournment on the basis that the witnesses are not present in court. She however promised that she will make them available on the next adjourned date.

On that note the lead defense counsel, Lansana Dumbuya, made a bail application on behalf of the accused, appealing that he will not jump bail and interfere with prosecution witnesses.

The accused was granted twenty-five million Leones bail and one surety in like sum. The surety should produce national identification card and bail is to be approved by the Master and Registrar.

The matter was adjourned to the 8th June 2018 for further hearing.
