At ECOWAS ICT/TELECOMS MEETING… Information Ministers Lure Support for Sierra Leone

Information and Communications Minister, Mohamed Rado Rahman Swarray, has appealed to his colleague Ministers of ECOWAS attending the 16th ECOWAS ICT/TELECOM and Post Ministerial Meeting in Burkina Faso, to consider this country for projects and programs from the ECOWAS Commission geared towards enhancing the country’s digital transformation roadmap currently developed by his Ministry in line with the African Union Digital Transformation Strategy and the ECOWAS digital programme.
Mohamed Rahman Swarray made this statement while addressing the meeting at Laico hotel, Ouagadougou Burkina Faso.
The meeting is a periodic event held to consider and adopt harmonized regional policies, guidelines and recommendations prepared by the Commission towards the development of Telecommunications/ICT & Postal services in the region.
The Information Minister used the occasion to reiterate President Bio’s commitment to the use of digital technology and innovation in promoting and fostering regional integration.
Minister Mohamed Swarray was reported to have also interacted with delegates from Cape Verde on the possibility of Sierra Leone participating in a study on landing a second Submarine Cable that will provide redundancy to the current single ACE cable, as well as linking the country to the Americas through Brazil.
The Minister was also reported to have held meetings with his Ghanaian and Gambian counterparts on issues bordering on Cyber Security, Universal Access Fund and the revitalization of the incumbent operator in Sierra Leone, Sierratel.
