Three Senior Officers of the Bank of Sierra Leone, Mr. Jibao Flee, Director of Banking, Mr, Ivan L. Gbondo, Assistant Director and Mrs. Florella Hastings Spaine, Assistant Director Banking Operations have all been sacked yesterday and also detained at the Criminal Investigations Department for flouting Executive Orders and going ahead in paying a whooping sum of Le 14 Billion to Mr. Pavi Port a Road Construction contractor doing a number of roads in the country under the Ernest Koroma regime.
It was alleged that the Bank Governor Dr. Patrick Conteh had given verbal instructions authorizing the payment but he had however denied knowledge of such transaction.
The three had failed to adhere to the new procedures as established by the Ministry of Finance on the payment of contractors.
It could be recalled the President had earlier directed that payment of all contracts he had inherited should be cleared with the Ministry of Finance as a control measure to ensure that payments made to contractors are commensurate to works done.
Daven Port Construction Company and a host of others had surfaced in the country under the APC regime controlling a number of huge road contracts amounting to billions of Leones to which they APC top officials had huge enjoyed kickbacks while a number of these road contracts remain uncompleted or abandoned.
