Athletes Appeal To Sport Authorities

Must read

Sierra Leone track and field athletes have appealed to the Ministry of Sports (MOS) and the National Sports Authority (NSA) to assist them to make sure that the country was represented in this month’s Kaduna Games in Nigeria.

Speaking to this medium, the President of the Sierra Leone Athlete Union, James Lemon, aka Kolo, said they were appealing to both the NSA and MOS to do the needful for the athletes who have trained so hard to fly the green, white and blue high in Nigeria.

He emphasized that athletes have worked so hard to showcase their talent in this month’s Kaduna Games and he believes that, with the assistance from the Sports Ministry and the NSA, athletes will come home with laurels.

“We’ve been turned down twice by the Ministry of Sports, but this time around we want both the Sports Ministry and NSA to consider us. We know football is the most popular sports in the country, but athletics have brought many medals home, compared to what government has invested in football without any good result,” he stated.

He underscored the Abidjan and Nigeria disappointment are still fresh in the minds of athletes in which they were at the airport to check in and they were later told that the trip had been cancelled. So this time around they are kindly appealing to the Minister of Sports, Ibrahim Nylenkeh, and the Executive Director of the NSA, Dr. Kenneth Brima, to come on board to help athletes to represent Sierra Leone in the Kaduna Games, which will commence this coming weekend.
