Bai Mamoud Bangura

By Janet A Sesay

Police doctor, John Mumueh Konteh has told the court that he endorsed the medical report of the eight accused, Bai Mamoud Bangura who passed the blood urine.

Bangura, he said, was taken to the hospital on 31st   December, last year at about 8am and reported of suffering severe headache.

He further testified  before the court that he ran several tests on him and his findings showed that his blood pressure was high hovering around 250/102.

He also said he was passing blood urine and based on that they immediately started treatment on him, and his blood came down after the treatment.

Doctor Konteh further told the court that the accused’s blood pressure shot up again to 214/102 yesterday.

“The challenges facing Bai Mamoud Bangura is that, whenever there is stability, his pressure comes down but immediately when there is pressure, his blood pressure shoots up again,” he informed the court.

The police medic also informs the court that Bangura needs some rest lest he die of heart attacks.

The medical report was produced and tendered in court   marked exhibit N1-2.

Having heard witness’s testimony,  Counsel Africanus Sesay immediately announced representation for the accused. “My client is seriously ill and has been confirmed by the doctor,” Counsel Sesay submitted and same time  arguing that bail regulations prioritised medical treatment  when an accused was seriously ill.

He said the court would like the eight accused to be in court to defend himself and not the other way round.

That notwithstanding, Counsel A.J. Bockarie still submitted that Bai Mamoud Bangura should be transferred to the Male correctional facility until he is brought to court.

In light of the defence and prosecution’s argument, Justice Komba Kamanda ruled that a warrant of arrest was still in enforce against Bangura who is hospitalised and to enable the court to have jurisdiction over him, he should be immediately transferred  to the correctional facility until he comes to court.
