Bo Mayor Calls For Urgent Rehab Of Bo Town Council Hall

By Ralph Sesay in Bo City

His Worship, the Mayor of Bo, Harold L.Tucker, has urged government and other well meaning Sierra Leoneans and humanitarian organizations to urgently come to his Council’s aid and rehabilitate the Bo Town Council Hall.

Mr. Tucker, who spoke to this medium, described this facility, which is located at Coronation Filed in Bo, as one that is in very bad shape and needs urgent repairs to bring it back into public use. He furthered that the facility, which was constructed in the early 60s, houses the offices of the Mayor, a mini hall, administration and revenue generation offices, amongst others.

The facility, His Worship the Mayor went on, is a budget line for Council and is also being frequently used by members of the public, Civil Society Organizations and NGOs/CBOs for hosting meetings, workshops and seminars. But, according to him, it has been closed to both public and private use due to its current state.

The Mayor expressed disappointment that the Old Bo Boys Association would, for the first time, not be able to use the hall for their reunion dance due to what he refered to as its current dilapidated state.

The event, according to him, has been moved to the Bo NASSIT Plaza, which is an open air.

He concluded by stating that his request is even urgent considering the fact that the venue ( Bo Town Council Hall) is the meeting point for all Council and Ward Committee meetings.

“Considering that all Local Councils would soon be inaugurated by his Excellency the President, we, as a Council, would face a serious challenge of not having a spacious venue to host meetings as ward committee members have increased from 30 to 170 due to the addition of more constituencies and wards.

“This is leaving us with no option as the President has also instructed that all Government functions should now be held on Government facilities,” the Mayor of Bo concluded.
