Country Manager, Bollore Transport and Logistics Group Sierra Leone, Mr. Fabjanko Kokan, has briefed journalists on the strides his management has made to develop human capacity of its workforce since they came to the country in 2011.
The Country Manager made the statement while meeting with the media at the Company’s Headquarters at the Freetown Terminal on Tuesday.
The meeting was held to provide regular updates with the media and the people of Sierra Leone on the operations of the company.
He disclosed that they at Bollore have dismissed rumours that Sierra Leone does not have the skills and requisite competency to operate most of the company’s machines.
The Country Manager outlined that Bollore Logistics and Transport Company has proved their critics wrong by placing over 90% of Sierra Leoneans at the Managerial level of the Company.
The move by the company, he added, has been possible largely because they have invested hugely in the training of staff across all levels, both operational and administrative.
“Continuous training and development is critical to the development of the company,” he stated.
He expressed concern that they as a company has not been able to achieve its true aspirations with regards positioning the Port as a hub for the region, but that they are almost very close to getting there.
The port since its completion is now recording 55,000 vessels per year and that the cost they charge per 1×20 Container is 1% of the total cost of the goods in the container.
He used the occasion to disclose to the media that they will be organizing a Marathon on the 25th of September 2019, and that proceeds from the event will be used to support the cause of vulnerable children in Sierra Leone.
Mr. Fajanko recounted that the Freetown Terminal with an investment of over 150 million United States dollars has all the space, equipment and facilities, and are now looking to attract more vessels into the country.
A Representative from the Human Resources Department of the Company gave highlights on the company’s medical and insurance policies and disclosed that they are spending over two billion a year to offset the medical of their personnel, a spouse and four children.
Other representatives from the company also answered questions around handling charges for each Container, Tax Compliance, Corporate Social Responsibility and other humanitarian gestures they have undertaken since they came to the country in 2011.
