Businessman Remanded For Fraud

Hassan Kamara, a business tycoon on Wednesday, 2nd July, 2015 made his first appearance before Magistrate Mary Julian Gbloh of Pademba Road Court No.5 for allegedly defrauding Mohamed Mansaray, the Complainant, over Seventy Thousand New Leones by falsely pretending that he has land for sale.

Kamara is standing trial before the court on a count charge of obtaining money by false pretense contrary to Section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

The indictment states that Hassan Kamara on diverse dates between January and December, 2024 at the Central Mosque at Lumley, in Freetown, with intent to defraud obtained the sum of Seventy-Four Thousand New Leones (NLe 74, 000) from Mohamed Mansaray by falsely pretending that he has land for sale knowing same to be false.

When the charge was read and explained to the accused person, no plea was taken. The Police Prosecutor, Sergeant 3001 Francess Lamin went on to seek for an adjournment because, according to her, the Prosecution Witnesses were absent in court.

Magistrate Gbloh therefore refused to grant bail on account of the money involved and ordered that the accused person be remanded in custody at the male correctional facility in Freetown and adjourned the matter to 8th July, 2025 for hearing.
