Caretaker Docked For Stealing

Patrick Johnson, a police officer, on Friday 20th November 2020 dragged his caretaker, Sayo Sesay, to court allegedly for stealing his boss’ building materials from his store.

The accused made his first appearance before Magistrate Abdul Sheriff of Magistrate Court No. 3 on Pademba Road in Freetown. He is facing two counts of store breaking and larceny, which are all contrary to Section 26 (1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the charge sheet, the accused, on Saturday 7th November 2020, at Samsumana Drive, IMATT in Freetown, broke and entered into the store of Patrick Johnson and stole therein eight bags of imported cement, valued at six hundred thousand Leones (Le600,000) whilst in his custody.

The charge sheet further states that the accused, on the same day and place, did steal one submissive water pump machine, valued at five million Leones, which property also belongs to Patrick Johnson. After the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty of the offense.

The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Moses Moore, sought for a date, arguing that his witnesses were not present in court, but he will endeavor to have them in court on the next adjourned date.

The accused was unrepresented and so no bail application was made on his behalf. The accused was remanded in custody and the matter comes up again on the 24th November 2020.
