Alimamy Bangura and Haja Turay have made their first appearance before Magistrate Alhaji Suliaman Koroma of Magistrate Court No. 1, for the offence of larceny, an offence which is contrary to Section 13 of the Larceny Act of 1816.
The police prosecution witness, Tina Sheriff, told the court that he recognized the accused as a caretaker for one Mr. Bangura at Yams Farm Junction, Waterloo Highway in the outskirts of Freetown.
According to her, on the day in question, she was at home sleeping when she suddenly heard her mother screaming in the palour. She said she rushed to the palour and saw her mother lying flat on the floor, profusely bleeding.
The witness added that her mother told her how she saw the first accused and raised an alarm in the neighborhood, adding that the Chief Imam asked the youths of Yams Farm to go into the accused`s residence. She said, after a few seconds, the accused was apprehended.
She said the accused made a confessional statement to the Chief Imam, that he was the one they saw in the compound. The witness said he only stole three mobile phones, which he allegedly gave to the second accused.
The witness added that, when they confronted the second accused, she refused to give the mobile phones.
“We took them to the Hastings Police Division for further investigation,” the witness said. She said she also made a statement in respect of the matter.
The police charge sheet adduces that Alimamy Bangura and Haja Turay, on the 5th June 2020 at Yam Farm, Junction Waterloo Highway, entered into the dwelling house of the complainant and stole therein certain properties worth millions of leones.
The accused were refused bail and remanded at the Male Correctional Centre Pademba Road in Freetown, while the matter was adjourned to 12th August 2020.
