It is no doubt that the Coalition for Change Leader and former Vice President of Sierra Leone, Chief Alhaji Sam Sumana, is a decisive factor in the politics of Sierra Leone and the upcoming 2023 elections.
The main opposition APC currently wallowing in opposition knows this and this explains why their Chairman and Leader, former President, Ernest Bai Koroma has done everything to mend fences with the political maestro.
Kono as a district has been consistently able to follow through on their sons and daughters from the district who venture into mainstream politics namely: from Abu Aiah Koroma, Songu Mbriwa and others.
They have always supported thick and skin to victory whenever the opportunity presents itself.
The situation that had permeated the March, 2018 elections in which Chief Sam Sumana and former Koidu New Sembehun City Mayor, Emerson Saa Lamina, hurriedly formed the Coalition for Change Party very close to those elections, is a pointer to the fact that the Konos are crucial to supporting their kits and kins in elections in Sierra Leone.
Chief Sam Sumana is currently an idol for the Konos and the politics of Sierra Leone.
His peace with Ernest Korma and the APC should be a worrying sign for the ruling SLPP, even when they are increasingly moving on with their vision to build the first Science University in the District and deliver on their Education flagship project.
The government has concentrated by appointing more Konos into their government.
The truth is that the Konos will discountenance whatever development that comes into their land just to ensure that they support their kits and kins when the battle is near.
A critical example is pointing at the massive township roads, electricity and health services pumped in by the APC in the last ten years.
The result of such goodies was to rally behind the C4C to destabilize the APC.
The two men, Ernest Koroma and Sam Sumana, are capable of giving Bio’s New Direction a run for their money in the 2023 elections.
The recent happenings during the burial of Pa Konomanyi where the two have gathered the Paramount Chiefs in the district at a dinner to announce the peace between them is a significant step to mend fences between the two men and the custodians of the land.
Former President Koroma used the occasion to announce to the chiefs that Chief Sam Sumana has returned to the APC.
The Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, according to reports, was disappointed at the way and manner the crowd had exhibited itself when at the funeral it was turned into a APC affair.
He was constrained as the representative of the government to the funeral of such a great man.
Many mourners left the funeral upon seeing the two men together.
The enthusiasm of the crowd descended into an election campaign.
The gullible Kono crowd forgot all what Chief Sam Sumana had told them about the APC and they were almost immediately ready to go with him to the APC.
They had even used the occasion to express concerns about the current state of affairs in the country and reported to former President Koroma that they are still where he left them in the APC.
Despite insinuations that Kono will be hugely divide in the next coming elections, Chief Sam Sumana, the political maestro, is capable of swinging Kono wherever he goes.
