Abubakar Joe Sesay was right on Civil Society Politicians
Abubakar Joe Sesay, a member of the SLPP communications team, was right to have stated in the SLBC’s morning Coffee program that Democracy Sierra Leone, a Civil Society Organization, is an outfit of the ruling APC. This, according to Joe Sesay, was because the organization has promoted all the actions of the APC. Whiles he was correct in stating that, he was also economical with the truth by failing also to name a few other civil organizations that had religiously followed and stood with the opposition SLPP in whatever they had interest in throughout the last ten years.
It is a shame that our civil society organizations have reduced themselves to politicians against the very aspirations in which they should operate.
No ICC investigator in Sierra Leone
The Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Institute of International Law, who also doubles as the Head of the Independent Media Commission, has rubbished rumours that ICC investigators are currently in the country to monitor elections related violence.
The situation, according to Ambassador Kanu, doesn’t warrant the presence of ICC investigators in the country. Their presence, according to Mr. Kanu, would normally occur where there are widespread, systematic and coordinated violence.
Mohamed Kamarainba disowned
The Leader of the Alliance Democratic Party has been virtually disowned by his Chairman and other supporters who had early this week resigned from the party and openly declared for the retired Brigadier. The ADP leader has come back and forth, endorsing the APC candidate and also refusing such endorsement. We have continuously stated in this medium that he is a man that cannot be trusted.
The NGC had supported the Court Injunction
The National Grand Coalition, who came third in the March polls, have endorsed the court injunction against the presidential runoff. A press release from the party has stated that their earlier observations, on the conduct of the polls, which they presented to NEC, was not treated seriously. These irregularities have also been highlighted by a number of other political parties to the extent that a private lawyer has taken the matter to the High Court.
They stated that, in principle, they are prepared to support the conduct of the runoff following the vacation of the injunction but on a condition that NEC would have addressed all the serious issues of malpractices and irregularities raised by most of the political parties, including the NGC.
They further stated that, given that the election results have been discredited by all the major political parties in the country, on the basis of evidence of malpractice everywhere, our nation, they went on, is now confronted with the embarrassment of accepting the results of a sham election proceeding to a runoff only to save the state.
