Our revered first lady is in the news again after his husband has been elected into office. City Peep had predicted her to be ‘’Our Own Grace Mugabe in the making ‘’ This prediction seems to be becoming true as callers on SLBC’s ‘Morning Coffer’ and the popular ’Concern Citizen’ radio programs of Monday the 14th May, 2018 had criticized the new administration for putting the first lady at the helm of the organization of inauguration ceremony of her husband. City Peep learnt that she has allegedly brought in celebrities mostly from Nigeria against the disapproval of senior members of the committee thereby wasting over a billion Leone on accommodation and flight tickets. The information Mohamed Rado Swarray minister had downplayed the first lady’s involvement in the inauguration ceremony and other allegations flying around her, stating that the involvement of first lady in such an event is a norm all around the world and this according to him explains why there is always State budget and Staffers allocated to her.
THE OVER EXUBERANCE OF OUR SECURITY PERSONNEL
There is an over exuberance these days by our security players around State functions. This is not sending a correct signal about our democratically elected president. City Peep is very much aware that this exuberance may not have been warranted by our President but the heads of these security institutions who may want to show their loyalty to the new man at the helm of affairs .This state of affairs is denying Journalist the rights to freely cover State functions and also impinges on the human rights of citizens .The situation at the stadium on the inauguration day that lead to one (1) death and several persons wounded was as a result of such exuberance and unprofessionalism displayed by the security forces. Please pipe down and allow the people to feel the warmth and love of their new President.
HANDING OVER NOTES
It is fastly becoming a norm though not a legal requirement that former President’s are not allowed to make statements during inauguration ceremonies of incoming Presidents. This practice which according to many is largely due to allow the incoming President to properly settle down whiles contemplating on the way forward and not bothered by controversial issues or differences in terms of approaches to different governance issues. But this in it entirety is a disservice to the people that elected the president as the outgoing is accountable to the people and hence the reason why he is suppose to account for his stewardship and not to hand over speeches to his predecessor in close door.
HER WORSHIP THE MAYORESS AKI- SAWYER OATH TAKING
The City is taken aback to learn that the Mayoress of Freetown Her worship Madam Aki Sawyer had been quietly sworn in by the Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone in a low key affair even when her election victory was landslide. One would imagine that his oath taking should have been a hectic day for supporters of her party. City Peep understands that the Bio government was under pressure for administering the oath to the Mayoress after her been sidelined in the just concluded cleaning exercise within the City .News was going around that the oath was administered to her to be able to welcome as culture demands dignitaries coming into the city. With even the hastily arranged oath taking that was witnessed by few party officials and government functionaries Her Worship could not perform this function.
