APC DIVIDED
Time was when the All Peoples Congress (APC) was one solid block. They were as thick as thieves but that does not mean that they are thieves. It is just a simile .They were just running the government as a business. And you know that no sane person runs a business for loses but for gain .So no one has the right to blame Ernest Koroma for making profit out of his business even if part of that profit comes from a mining company.
It would appear that the pa is leaving the business in the hands of several people each one claiming to be his anointed successor. This is what has led to a nine-man committee that does not have a focused mandate. The old guard are keeping the flames of the party burning and have been issuing inane press releases to be seen by the general membership as functional.
While the Sierra Leone APC is prospectively spilt into two their counterparts in the Nigeria APC have in form and in fact spilt up .Coming events cast their shadows. The Sierra Leone APC is sure to catch the contagion.
Sylvia Blyden’s Attention Bid
Poor girl, she needs attention. Having tasted power she is now ill-at-ease at its loss. Her latest attention bid is a gripe against the newly-appointed ACC Commissioner. She has closed the stable after the horse has bolted. As far as she is concerned Francis Ben Kaifala’s appointment is flawed.
She asked the silly questions whether all members of the Appointments Committee were present for the appointment. If not she wants the appointment to be annulled. Having failingly been engaged in chiding President she has now trained her guns on other government functionaries starting with the ACC Commissioner. She even had the laughable observation that one of the requirements for a valid appointment is the presence of the public. Can you beat that?
This woman has flirted with all governments since the juntas. She once portrayed Ernest Koroma with horns. Koroma gave in to her blackmail and awarded her appointments. But that gimmick is not going to work with the incumbent President. No way!
Rape Penalties
Why is it that Sierra Leone governments take some serious things light-heartedly? As they have taken the death penalty so have they taken the penalty for rape with reckless abandon. Dan Morseray gave a run down of the penalties for rape in other countries.
Among them the penalties in Sierra Leone are some of the lightest. Why? And this is in the face of the fact that rape is increasing. Some countries even have the death penalty. If we do not have the death penalty lets have very long term sentences or life imprisonment. The laws for rape need urgent amendment.
SLBC Review
It would come as no surprise to avid listeners that there should be some changes in the old order. The fact is that the former Director General and the Deputy were not listening to any suggestions from the public because they thought they were too educated to listen to ‘’nonsense‘’ Now the new administration should have invited suggestions from the public because they are the ones to be satisfied. Its no use imposing programs on them. City Peep is tempted to think that this is another leader of the SLBC who thinks he has all the answers. What we think should be done immediately is to excise immediately the programs HOW YOU DO TIDAY meant only to glorify Haja Kadi Johnson .
Another New Direction the new Director General should think of is that of the presenters some of whom are not fit for purpose with atrocious pronunciations. We shall name them if the station does not take pre-emtive action.
