SLBC EDITORS TO ATTEND GRAMMAR SCHOOLS CLASSES
The kind of English spoken by presenters of the SLBC and edited obviously is so horrible that their attention has to be drawn to it lest they mislead learners of the language into a worse state of education than they were before they listened. SLBC ought not to be a repository of mediocrity especially under a new Directior-General .
During the old dispensation the attention of the Directors was drawn to English lapses but in spite of their cliché of ‘’your voice my voice’’ they treated them with contempt because they are poets.For instance their attention was drawn over and over to the meaningless statement : ‘’ Death of the late which they continue to announce. Its no different from saying : ‘’ Death of the dead.’’ The duty of editors is to edit and not just to pass on whatever is written to the announcers .Otherwise they are redundant.They encourage their announcers to reason in bombast which is fake without a grounding of the basics of the language.
Their latest display of semi-literacy by the editors was over the item on the departure of the Ahmadiya delegation from Sierra Leone. They kept on announcing The Ahmadiya delegation ‘’has bade farewell to President Bio.
A simple study of grammar at class 6 level ought to show that in passing and analysis there are three tenses of PRESENT,PAST AND PERFECT in terms of verbs.
The verb BID is parsed as follows:
Present tense Past tense Perfect tense
Bid Bade Bidden
So HAS BADE should have grammatically read HAS BIDDEN .It is like GIVE,GAVE,GIVEN.Its a shame for ‘’Di No 1 radio station nasalone ‘’
It is the correct use of syntax or grammar that shows the level of education of anyone and not mathematics or other subjects.This newspaper can provide free lessons for SLBC editors instead of them paying fees at Grammar School .They should attend Grammar classes.
FRAGILE PEACE
If peace is taken to mean existence without conflict or peaceful co-existence how do we interpret the peace that was brokered between President Bio and Dr.SamuraKamara by Rev,Fr.Davies of the Catholic mission of which the two former candidates were rivals.
After the hand-shakes and wary smiles from Dr.SamuraKamara he went on to resume his law suit against President Bio .Why oh Why? What did Jesus Christ teach in Mathew 5:39 ? ‘’But I say unto you,Do not resist one who is evil .But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek ,turn to him the other also ; and if anyone would sue you and take your coat let him have your cloak as well ‘’ The ball is now in President Bio’s court to give his cloak to Dr.SamuraKamara .Some citizens are now wondering whether this is Masonic peace in view of the fact that Dr. Kamara is a lodge member .
