CITY PEEP

Must read

ATTENTION EDUCATION MINISTRY!
There are sections of the citizenry which specialize in flouting government regulations. One such section is the Obama Secondary School in Waterloo Village. It will be recalled that the Ministry of Education has said over and over again that night classes are forbidden. Now the Obama School has planned to be holding all night classes for boys and girls.
What is not known is whether private schools are not covered by government regulations. One can imagine that a number of negative things are bound to happen to the future of the students under the guise of learning. What will the students learn at night that they cannot learn during the day?
City Peep can hazard guesses:
1. How to be pregnant.
2. How to acquire Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) including HIV.
3. How to freely indulge in drug abuse, and
4. How to spend the nights in the bedrooms of teachers.

DEFIANCE OF PETTY TRADERS
Sierra Leone is a country with a majority of Muslims but is not fortunately an Islamic state. In their wisdom the last APC government forbade trading on Sundays to keep that day holy and to give the traders an involuntary rest. It was strictly observed with appropriate penalties.
Came the SLPP government and it overturned that regulation and permitted trading on Sunday afternoon. It is not known whether this move was to gain cheap popularity or not. In the first few weeks there was no trading before 12 noon. Gradually the traders started trading by 11:30 am and now they have successfully descended to 9:00 am with no action to stop them by the police. What is not known is whether there has been a secret pact between the traders and the police unknown to the rest of the public. If there is no such agreement then was it necessary for the government to overturn the APC regulation?
A typical example is seen at Calaba Town market where there is more trading in the morning hours on Sundays than during the rest of the week. All this happens without a disciplinary frown by the Paopa government led by a former soldier.
AVOID WATER BORNE DISEASES
We should congratulate ourselves for having staved off cholera for some lengthy time now thanks to some sanitary measures starting with the last government. Though it did not sustain a cleaning exercise owing to corrupt practices allegedly by Balogun Koroma and others it was tough on the question of clean water.
A former Deputy Minister of Health saw to it that the producers of packet water were properly inspected. But since this government came to power it has only concentrated on cleaning day.
Some of the water in those packets smells. This is in spite of the fact that pure water should have no smell, taste or colour. They all have no color (deceptive) but some smell and have taste. What is the Sanitation wing of the Ministry doing?
