LAB TEST CORRUPTION
Without laboratory tests diagnosis can never be complete. The stethoscope takes temperatures and heart beats but that is not all. There are many more ailments that can only be disclosed by laboratory tests. Ailments like those of the blood, urine and chest etc. need lab tests for disclosure.
It is therefore unacceptable that poor citizens who are in the vast majority in the country cannot benefit from lab. tests. Reason: they cannot afford to pay the exorbitant charges of laboratory technicians in government hospitals.
First, there is no notice board stating the costs of various tests. It is the lab technicians that think of any figure and task the poor patient to cough it up. Failing to do so, they simply turn tail and go home to die without cure. Not only that. Even after paying the random costs patients are not issued with receipts simply because these monies are destined for the pockets of the lab technicians and the Community Health Officers. It is a syndicate. Proceeds are shared at the end of the day instead of going into government revenue. Is that right?
It should be noted in passing that registration fees are paid by patients before they are directed to the laboratories. Can we imagine the number of people who have died untimely deaths because they cannot afford lab test fees? There is a centrifugal force here with people running away from government laboratories because of costs. This question has been raised before by City Peep but it would appear that the Anti-Corruption Commission turned a blind eye to such a highly corruption related issue. It has been published that emoluments of health workers were increased recently.
There is a centripetal force elsewhere.
With regard to COVID-19 testing people are even being coaxed to take tests which are free. In this case people are afraid of taking tests for reasons of ignorance.
CONCERN OF MILLIONAIRES
The love of money is the root of all evil. Some millionaires are magnanimous by nature. Too much of one thing is good for nothing. Bill Gates and others form foundations to help less fortunate humanity.
As a result, some millionaires around the world have suggested the raising of taxes to help those adversely affected by COVID-19. City Peep had been advocating for government officials to implement pay cuts of only 30 percent which will not make them starve, to help in the fight against COVID-19. But ah yah!
This government is one of money grabbing.
They are busy amassing wealth because they are aware that they will be defeated in the 2022 Local Government elections and the Parliamentary and Presidential elections of 2023. The Paopa government is a government of misers. It is a pity.
METROLOGICAL REPORTS
A local radio station called Capital Radio had been announcing weather forecasts on a daily basis.
This should be the duty of a station called the SLBC that boasts of being the 1st radio station in West Africa. They are content with that; they do not seem to know that the first shall be the last.
City Peep is pleading for daily weather forecasts by SLBC in place of some irrelevant programs that please only their friends.
