Court Martial Defence Lawyer Heads for Appeals Court

Lawyer for Second accused, Amadu Koroma in the just concluded Court martial trials of three members of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, has said in Freetown that in the next twenty four hours he will appeal the ruling of Alhaji Momoh Jah Stevens against his client, Warrant Officer Class Two, Abubabar Jalloh.
Jalloh was sentenced to three years jail by the Judge Advocate past Tuesday, 2nd July 2019 after spending 377 days in custody.
Lawyer Koroma says he is surprised at the ruling of the Judge advocate and noted that the evidence before the judge was just not enough to convict his client for conspiracy.
He stated that he is very hopeful of securing justice at the Appeals Court where he would be filing papers in the next twenty four hours.
Also lawyer for the 2nd accused Joesil Taylor who was discharged for want of prosecution, has asked the state for compensation for his client, against the background that his client has spent 377 days in custody.
However, the Judge Advocate turned down the application by the defense counsel.
In another development, Major Yayah Sidi Brima has also told this medium that it is possible that the seven members of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces who are being investigated for the circumstances involving the escape of Captain Edwin Kamara in the early hours of 21st May, 2019, will face court martial proceedings in the not too distant future.
Major Brima reiterated that investigations around the escape of Captain Kamara are still ongoing and will have to proofer who was responsible for what and also the charges that they will be charged with.
The military officers including a Major and six (6) others military personnel, were arrested after Captain Kamara who was detained at the Wilberforce Custodial center, west of Freetown, escaped from his security tight location.
It is believed that the Major and the six others were responsible in one way or the other for securing the three court martial indicties .
After spending 377 days in custody, the proceedings presided over by Justice Alhaji Momoh-Jah Stevens has in the last twenty four hours handed judgment slamming ten and three years on 1st and 2nd accused respectively and acquitting and discharging 3rd accused.
