Cricket Sierra Leone Female Team Gears For Prestigious Kalahari T20 Tournament

By Alpha Barrie

The Sierra Leone national women’s cricket team, fondly known as the Ladies Patriots, has arrived safely in Gaborone, Botswana to participate in the highly anticipated BCA Kalahari Women’s T20 Tournament, scheduled to run from April 24 to May 1, 2025.

The 18-member delegation, consisting of 14 talented players and four officials, departed from neighbouring Guinea with high hopes of making a mark on the international stage. Their participation underscores Sierra Leone’s growing presence in women’s cricket and builds on the momentum gained during their impressive run at the Nigerian Women’s Invitational.

Organized by the Botswana Cricket Association, the five-nation showdown will feature Sierra Leone, host nation Botswana, Mozambique, Eswatini, and Kuwait. The tournament will adopt a single round-robin group stage format, with each team battling it out for regional dominance—and crucial ICC ranking points.

In a notable first, Kuwait’s women’s team will be making their debut against non-Asian teams in a T20 competition, adding extra excitement to the mix.

With eyes set on improving their standing within the North West Africa Cricket Council (NWACC), the Ladies Patriots are geared up for what promises to be a thrilling and competitive tournament.
