The Technical Team from Sierra Leone Cable Limited (SALCAB) has intimated journalists that they are shutting down internet and data transmission in the country to be able to repair the trunk ACE cable in Dakar, Senegal which, according to them, has been developing failures in recent times.
The SALCAB team indicated that they will shut down the entire ACE cable thereby disrupting internet and voice services to members of the public for ten days from 7th to 10th December 2019.
They assured the public that SALCAB has been proactive enough to ensure that they migrate all data and voice services through Nigeria to Europe during the rehabilitation period.
The team further noted that countries like Liberia, Ghana and others in the sub region that are benefiting from the ACE cable, will not be affected with the repairs of the Senegal trunk cable largely because these countries have alternative cables to the ACE cable.
Many Sierra Leoneans spoken to especially those who are visiting the country on holidays have expressed disappointment that the ten-day period will seriously affect them even though there are assurances that SALCAB will provide alternative sources for Sierra Leoneans to have internet and data voice services.
