Cyber Bullying Lands Man in Court

Joseph Sesay was on Tuesday, 5th August, 2025, dragged to court by one Edward Sesay on allegation of cyber bullying against his person.

Joseph was arraigned before Magistrate Sao Mamakoh Kallon of Pademba Road Court No.3 on two count charges of Cyber Stalking contrary to Section 44(1)(a) of the Cyber Security and Crime Act, 2021.

The charge sheet indicates that Joseph Sesay on Saturday, 3rd December, 2023 in Freetown, allegedly used WhatsApp Account Number +23231-214-660 to circulate a threatening audio message against Edward Sesay with intent to damage his reputation, instill fear in him and provoke him to breach the peace.

The indictment furthered that Joseph Sesay posted another audio message on WhatsApp aimed at bullying the complainant with the intention to cause emotional harm on him and to damage his reputation.

In his testimony, Inspector Mohamed Jusu, a Cyber Analyst at the Headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) explained himself as an Investigator with the CID for twenty (20) years, and that his role is to analyze cyber offences and also receive and review audio recordings from mobile phones for the purpose of analysis.

Jusu testified that on said date mentioned above, he was on duty when he received a Techno mobile phone for examination.

He said he extracted materials from the phone and stored them in a flash drive for the purpose of analyzing them. The said mobile phone was tender before the Court.

The witness was cross-examined by the accused himself.

After the cross-examination, the accused was granted bail and the matter was adjourned to 8th August, 2025 for a continuation of the proceedings.
