“ECOWAS Member States Agree To Recalibrate Roaming Regulations” -Information Minister

The Minister of Information and Communications, Mohamed Rahman Swaray has disclosed to journalists at the weekly Government press conference in Freetown that, the just concluded ECOWAS Ministerial Conference held in Burkina Faso has resulted to member states agreeing to recalibrate the roaming regulations thereby allowing member states to use their network freely between when travelling within the region.
According to Mohamed Rahman Swaray, ECOWAS member states will now have the opportunity to use their networks across the region with no cost attached.
He disclosed to the media that, the pro-activeness of government has created a huge impact on the telecommunications sector adding that through the strides of the New Direction government citizens have been able to enjoy a reduction in mobile tariff charges.
He furthered that his ministry does not in any way enjoy preferential treatment from any mobile companies but like any other cabinet Minister he buys top up card.
The Information Minister also used the occasion to update newsmen on a donor conference he chaired while Chad that was geared towards supporting Cyber Security in Africa as a continent.The conference he noted provides a clear road map on to how to tackle cyber-crime within nations.
Swarray pointed out that, the traveling of Government officials abroad using taxpayers has significant benefits that its brings to the development of the country.
The Minister spoke on visit of Facebook officials to Sierra Leone, a move he indicated aims towards the revitalization of the relationship with those organizations or companies.
Facebook,the Minister underscored has agreed to train female politicians including Small Medium Enterprise (SMEs) in Sierra Leone as well as also working towards supporting communities in terms of knowledge base on internet and social media platform.
