By Janet A Sesay

Alhaji Issa Kamara has been remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown after appearing before Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah of Pademba Road Court No. 1 on allegations of stealing electrical cables belonging to the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA).

Kamara is facing one count of Larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to the particulars of the offence, on September 7, 2026, at Siaka Stevens Street in the Western Area of Freetown, Kamara allegedly stole ten metres of copper-plated electrical cable, valued at Le1,500 per metre, with a total value of Le15,000.

The cables are alleged to be the property of EDSA.

When the charge was read and explained to him in court, Kamara pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Inspector Kadie Taylor, informed the court that she had served the accused with a copy of the case and inquiry file. Kamara acknowledged receipt of the documents.

The accused was not legally represented during the proceedings.

Magistrate Jah subsequently refused bail, citing the seriousness of the charge, and remanded Kamara at the Male Correctional Facility.

The matter has been adjourned to October 8, 2026 for further proceedings.
