Magistrate Wilbri Hamida Moira John, who presides over at the Ross Road Magistrate Court No.1, on Friday the 30th April, 2021, has granted thirty million Leones (Le30,000,000) bail with one surety each to eight accused (rioters).
They include Mohamed Benneh Kamara, Hassan Kamara, Lamin Kargbo, Peter Alfred Sorie Kamara, Alusine Kanu and three others. The bail conditions should be approved by the deputy Master and Registrar.
Bail was granted to the accused as a result of the application made by the lead defence counsel, Michaela Patricia George, for and on behalf of the eight accused.
The accused are arraigned before the court on two counts of riotous conduct and disorderly behaviour, which are all contrary to the Public Order Act No. 46 of 1965.
The police say Mohamed Benneh Kamara and seven others, on Wednesday 21st April, 2021, along Kissy in Freetown, engaged in a riotous conduct and disorderly manner.
When Magistrate John granted the eight accused bail, parents of the eight accused were jubilating within the court premises, which was instantly crowded with people.
The matter was adjourned to 10th May, 2021.
