The Sierra Leone Parliamentary Press Gallery (SLPPG) has honored Orange-Sierra Leone with a prestigious certificate in recognition of the mobile telecommunications service company’s excellence in providing communication service at a ceremony held on Thursday, 12th September, 2024, at the Orange headquarters in Freetown, thereby highlighting the company’s “outstanding contributions” to mobile telecommunications in Sierra Leone.

According to the Secretary General of the PPG, Amara Sewu, the certificate is in recognition of Orange-Sierra Leone’s “exceptional commitment to delivering reliable mobile services and ensuring customer satisfaction,” pointing out that Orange-Sierra Leone is dedicated to maintaining high standards in the country and has set a new benchmark in the Mobile Network Operator (MNO) industry in the country as he presented the certificate to Madam Danetta Young, General Secretary of Orange-Sierra Leone, and praised the company’s continued efforts to meet the needs of its customers while demonstrating reliability and innovation in the telecommunications sector.

Madam Danetta Young expressed gratitude on behalf of Orange-Sierra Leone and thanked the Sierra Leone Parliamentary Press Gallery for the recognition, emphasizing Orange-Sierra Leone’s “unwavering dedication to customer service, technological advancement and contributions to the media landscape in Sierra Leone.” She posited that the company is committed to excellence and its support for the media is second to none.

This recognition by the SLPPG, she noted, adds to the growing list of awards and recognitions that Orange-Sierra Leone has received over the years, including the Environmental Care Award which identified Orange-Sierra Leone as the Carbon Zero Champion Mobile Company of the year, while the company’s CEO, Sekou Amadou Bah, was recognized as the Environmental Champion CEO of the year. She disclosed that the company was in 2019, awarded with the Outstanding Humanitarian Award from Shout Climate Change Africa for the company’s humanitarian efforts, and that in 2020 the company also bagged the Compliance Award and in the same year, it also honored by the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) for compliance.

SHE went on to reveal other numerous awards accorded to Orange-Sierra Leone including, the Fastest Growing Mobile Operator also in 2022 by Advocacy Center as the fastest-growing mobile operator and as Best CSR/Philanthropy Organization in 2021 by the Sierra Business Awards for its outstanding corporate social responsibility and philanthropy efforts.

She said Orange-Sierra Leone hosts the annual Orange Social Venture Prize (OSVP), an international competition that supports businesses making positive social and environmental impacts.

Madam Young further that the OSVP also includes an International Women’s Prize, designed to promote and empower women-led businesses and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of women.

The OSVP, she explained, is organized by Orange Group in partnership with Innovation-Sierra Leone, to help nurture young entrepreneurial minds by providing financial support and expert guidance to startups in the Information Communication Technology (ICT) sector.

She therefore maintained that the recognition from the Sierra Leone Parliamentary Press Gallery further cements Orange-Sierra Leone’s role as a leader in telecommunications, corporate responsibility, and media support in the country.
