For Forceful initiation Into Poro Society… Police Officer Testifies

Detective Police Constable 1454 Mustapha Brima attached to the Criminal Investigations Department at Moriba Town Police Station, has testified before Magistrate Hannah Bonnie of the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1 in the ongoing matter involving eleven accused persons that were alleged of forcefully initiating people into the Poro Society in Moriba Town, Imperi Chiefdom in Bonthe District, southern Sierra Leone.
Police prosecution witness told the court that he recognized the 2nd and 4th accused persons and also recalled 19th February, 2019.
He informed the court that on the that fateful day, he was on duty at the station when the Local Unit Commander (LUC), Chief Superintendent Andrew Musa attached to the Moriba Town Police Station arrested the 2nd and 4th accused persons and brought them to the station for the offences of unlawful assembly, conspiracy, kidnapping and other related offences.
The witness continued that on the 20th February 2019 he obtained a voluntary cautioned statement procedurally and at the end of the statement, he admitted it to be true and correct by affixing his right hand thumb print.
The furthered that on the same date, Detective Inspector Ganda obtained a voluntary cautioned statement from the 2nd accused person that he admitted to be true and correct.
However, nine accused persons are on bail and that the 1st and 4th accused persons have been remanded, while the matter was adjourned to 2nd September 2019.
