Mohamed Sesay, a businessman, was last Friday 4th September 2020 sent to prison by Magistrate Hannah Bonnie of Court No. 1 for allegedly killing his brother, Alieu Sesay.
The accused made his first appearance after being arraigned on one count of murder, which is contrary to law.
According to the indictment, the police alleged that the accused, Mohamed Sesay, on Tuesday 11 August 2020, at Mountain Cut in Freetown, unlawfully murdered Alieu Sesay. When the charges were put to the accused in court, no plea was taken, and no legal representation was made on his behalf.
The police alleged that the accused and the deceased are brothers, but they had an existing malice that led to the alleged murder. Magistrate Hannah Bonnie informed the accused that, considering the seriousness of the offence, she will adjourn the matter in order to enable the accused get himself a lawyer that will defend him.
The matter was however adjourned to the 7th September 2020 for further hearing, whiles the accused was remanded in prison. Sergeant 9155 Dwight Macarthy is prosecuting the matter, while Lawyers A.M. Jalloh, I.A. Turay and J. Turay are associating with the police prosecutor in the matter.
