Members of Parliamentary Committee on Appointment and Public Services, Chaired by Hon. Matthew Nyuma has on Tuesday 28th January 2020 rejected Mr. France Sahr Alpha, proposed Member, and National Sport Authority of Sierra Leone.
The Presidential nominee was rejected by the law makers largely because according to them he has failed to provide them with the requested information.
In instances where he has provided information such was deemed as false by the lawmakers.This according to them was an embarrassment for the President who had reposed confidence on him.
Hon. Bashiru Silikie disclosed that, the Standing Orders of Parliament and the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone prohibits people especially nominees from forwarding false and misleading documents to parliament.
He was notified that the Committee have powers of arrest on anyone who is found wanting of having mislead the house.
He added that the nominee’s documents speak volume about what his activities would be hence he becomes a member of the Board of the Authority.
Hon. Ibrahim Ben Kargbo a member of the committee also discovered that, the nominee is paid above five million Leones and owns a house jeeps and a family has told the committee that he does not have basic amenities in his house.
The Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament, Hon. Dickson Rogers also expressed his dissatisfaction over the way and manner the nominee Mr. Alpha had presented his documents before the committee.
Ibrahim Ben Kargbo had encouraged his committee members to dismiss the nominee on the grounds that he has not treated the committee with the seriousness it deserves.
Twelve out of the 13 presidential nominees were successfully vetted including Professor Abu Sesay proposed Chairman Seed Regulatory, Dr. Augustine T-Robert proposed Chairman National Seed Board, Mr. David Sengu Woobey proposed Chairman National Sport Authority of Sierra Leone, Rev. Dickson Saidu proposed member Sierra Leone State Lottery, Mrs. Zainab Bintu Kamara proposed Board member Sierra Leone state Lottery.
Other nominees have included Mr. Mohamed Rex Benya, Mr, John Abdul Kargbo, Mr. Saidu M. Conteh, Mr. Francis Tucker, Alhaji Alusine Funkuba Fofanah proposed Board Members Sierra Leone State Lottery.
Mr. Zainab Augusta Baby Milton proposed member National Sport Authority of Sierra Leone and Rev. Joe Amara proposed member Road Maintenance Fund Administration respectively.They have all gone through the parliamentary vetting waiting for the final approval by the general house.
