Desperate times can sometimes bring about unity in a previously divided family, home, business or party. This unexpected unity is necessary if that institution or family is to make it through rough times.
More than anything, the current political stalemate that has engulfed Sierra Leone’s politics has ushered a period of peace in the main opposition, All People’s Congress (APC) that strong members of the party are hopeful of maintaining to the end of the investigations into the disputed 24th June, 2023 elections and beyond.
For his work in the open and the shadows, the party stalwarts are praising and thanking Dr. Kelfala Marrah for this season of peace the APC is evidently experiencing.
The unity in the APC was quite imminent for all to see at the launch of the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the tripartite committee clothed with the authority to investigate and make recommendations that will be actionable and implementable in all future elections.
In his work in the committee, Dr. Marrah appears well composed.
He has been called the pilot of the APC team that is steering the party through a terrain that he is obviously very familiar and comfortable with.
“Dr. Kelfala Marrah is the pilot for the APC team on the tripartite committee. As a pilot, he has navigated the APC plane through rough and horrible weather. No matter the turbulence, Dr. Marrah is equal to the task. The party couldn’t have chosen a better person to appear as the face of the party in these very difficult times. Dr. Marrah and the other members of the APC team are a blessing to the party. At a time when unity is desperately needed, these people didn’t embarrass us by sounding or appearing disorganised; they present what we hope will be the new normal for the APC going forward,” said an APC member that witnessed the signing of the ToR at Brookfields hotel in Western Freetown.
APC members and supporters said Dr Marrah handled the signing of the TOR professionally and was quite convincing articulating the APC’s position.
He was able to clear the air on the party’s expectations going into the investigations which are in line with the hopes and aspirations of the people of Sierra Leone aimed at quickly and professionally handling this episode in our elections narrative that is anything but embarrassing to a country that should have by now been a leader in the democratisation of African countries.
“Dr. Marrah and his teammates including Peter Conteh, Alimamy Petito Koroma, are like a pilot, co-pilot and a navigator. These three men have to work together in the cockpit if the plane is to fly smoothly and the passengers assured of reaching their final destinations. At the signing of the TOR, it was evident that Dr. Marrah and his teammates were at home professionally because they were seasoned negotiators who are quite adept in this line of business. The party has been blessed with these men working together. We have not witnessed the ugly diatribes and vitriolic utterances and actions that often accompany the APC whenever we are presented with a situation or issue that calls for unity. We can see that for the first time since his foray into party leadership, Dr. Samura Kamara can be assured that he is finally working with a unified team that has rallied behind him to see him assume the reins of state leadership at Fort Thornton or State House,” APC’s old informed Nightwatch.
Seeing a display of the kind of unity he has tirelessly worked to attain in the APC before 2018 elections, a fulfilled Dr. Samura Kamara was beaming with pleasure as he came face to face with the effects of a unified APC.
“You must know that Dr. Samura Kamara witnessed the signing of the ToR of the tripartite committee. You could see the sense of pride and well-being on his face. He had nothing but smiles for the world to see. It must have been a moment that can be equalled to a sigh of relief for him to see guys like Dr. Kelfala Marrah, Petito and Alfred Conteh working together without a single traditional media or social media platform saying anything otherwise. For a long time whenever the APC needed unity the most was when everybody will be preaching their own message and or taking sides by breaking the party into factions. We can say those days are long gone as we are presenting the new normal in the APC going forward which is U-N-I-T-Y,” said a female member of the APC at the signing.
According to the APC members, talk of a unified APC has raised the confidence and hope Dr. Samura Kamara has reposed in the men on the tripartite committee which is the signal that he now has a unified APC behind him.
“Better late than never! We finally have a unified APC behind Dr. Samura Kamara and the party is grateful to one man, Dr. Kelfala Marrah who will be humble enough to remind you not to forget to also thank the other members of the team. This unity that has long dodged the party with different factions saying different things aimed at sending the same message which hope is very illogical is now apparent and evident.
This has signalled to the ruling party that they can no longer throw a spanner in the works of the APC as the party is unified behind Dr. Samura Kamara come what may,” the APC supporters assured Sierra Leoneans.
