The President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, has congratulated the National Cricket Female Team, aka Ladies Patriots, for winning bronze at the Nigeria Women’s T20 International Tournament 2023 edition in Lagos.
In a tweet, President Bio expressed thanks to the Ladies and to their technical team “for a good tournament”.
He urged the Ladies to return to the pitch to train to attain greater heights. “Wishing you all a safe return home,” the tweet concluded.
This has marked the second time in four days the President has celebrated the uncommon feat of the Ladies. On Wednesday, when Sierra Leone defeated Ghana, the sport-loving President showered glorious sentiments on the team and the Board and Management of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association for doing well.
However, the Ladies Patriots cleared nine historic titles to end the Nigeria Women’s T20 International Tournament in a grand style, which ensures Sierra Leone left an indelible footprint on the landmass of Nigeria, sweeping titles to the surprise of fellow competitors.
Meanwhile, after Sierra Leone secured the third place Trophy and a number of unshared gains at the Nigeria Women’s T20 International Tournament 2023, former Chairman of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association, Beresford Bournes-Coker, has called on the First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Fatima Bio, to take an interest in women’s cricket as it is a good domain to help spread the ideals around the “Hands Off Our Girls” campaign.
‘I wish the First Lady can take an interest in women’s cricket, as there can be no truer example of an avenue depicting her call for the “Hands off Our Girls” campaign,’ he stated.
