Former Ambassador to the Republic of Belgium and also Head of European Mission Union, in the erstwhile President Koroma`s administration, Dr. Christian S. Kargbo, is currently standing trial at the Ross Road Magistrate Court No. 1, which is presided over by Magistrate Alhaji Suliaman Koroma, for failing to buy a Renault Vehicle for one Bella Conteh, the complainant, for the past four to five years.
Mr. Conteh told Nightwatch that he gave ten million Leones to Dr. Christian S. Kargbo, with the hope that he would sell a Renault vehicle to him, which he knows the same to be false.
He told this medium that he has testified in respect of the matter and that it was only left with the defense to open its case. But, he said, during the last adjourned date, Ambassador Kargbo made a commitment, to the court, that he will to settle the matter with him. So the matter was adjourned to the 20th November, 2020.
On Friday 20th November, 2020, the defense counsel, J.M. Jengo who is new in the matter, when it was mentioned by the Court Clerk, Mr. Blango, sought for an adjournment on the basis that he was new in the matter and that he wanted to peruse the file to enable him open their case.
On the other hand, M.P. George, who represented the applicant, Bella Conteh, did not oppose to adjournment, but asked that five hundred thousand Leones (Le 500,000) cost should be paid to her as against the next adjourned date. Her application was granted by the presiding magistrate.
The defendant is standing trial on two counts charge of obtaining money by false pretences and fraudulent conversion, which are all contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.
The matter will come up again on the 27th November, 2020.
