Former President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma has turns 66 today.
Koroma ruled Sierra Leone between September 2007 to April, 2018.He is the second democratically elected President of Sierra Leone from the North Western dominated All Peoples Congress Party.
Ernest Bai Koroma is from the Temne ethnic group with his parents, Sylvanus Koroma and Alice Koroma are from the Limba and Temne tribes respectively.
They were all teachers by profession which accounts for the humility and disposition of the former President Koroma.
He is married to Sia Koroma an ethnic Kono from Eastern Sierra Leone and blessed with two daughters, Dankeh and Alice Koroma respectively.
The Former President attended the Magburaka Boys Secondary School and Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone before becoming an Insurance broker in 1982 culminating into the opening of one of the country’s leading insurance companies, the Reliance Insurance Trust Corporation (RITCORP).
Koroma took over from late President Kabba of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and helped in consolidating the fragile peace and also establishing Government’s presence in many areas across the country.
He retired after serving his two terms in April, 2018 and peacefully handed over to his successor current President Julius Maada Bio of the SLPP.
His ten year rule succeeded in pushing through the Agenda’s for Change and Prosperity and recorded a massive infrastructural development across the Sierra Leone.
He inherited the darkest city in 2007 and restored over 2,000 mega watts to the country lighting up most major cities and towns. His road infrastructure projects were able to connect major towns and cities across the country.
