Abubakarr Sesay, Alpha Kamara, Dauda Kelfala Sesay and Abubakarr Kabia on Thursday, 9th October, 2025 made their first appearance before the Principal Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah of the Freetown Magistrate Court No. 1 for an alleged robbery with aggravation charges on two Indian nationals carting away quantity of gold and assorted properties valued over Eight Hundred Thousand New Leones (NLe 800, 000).
The defendants were arraigned on ten count charges of conspiracy contrary to law and robbery with aggravation contrary to Section 23(1)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916 as repealed and replaced by Section 1 of the Schedule of the Death Penalty Act 2022 No.6 of 2022.
The indictment states that the defendants, between 1st and 31st May 2025 at Magburaka Town, conspired together to commit a crime to wit; robbery with aggravation.
The indictment further states that the defendants on the same date, being armed with a pistol, robbed Mukesh Ray an amount of Thirty Thousand Indian Rupees equivalent to Eight Thousand, Three Hundred and Ten New Leones (NLe 8, 310), Thirty Thousand United States Dollars (USD 30, 000) equivalent to Seven Hundred and Twenty-Three Thousand New Leones (NLe 721, 000), quantity of gold, Six Hundred and Sixty-Five Euros (Euro 665) equivalent to Sixteen Thousand, Seven Hundred and Fifty-Eight New Leones (NLe 16, 758) and other valuable items all in total valued at Eight Hundred and Fifty-Four Thousand, Two Hundred and Nine-One New Leones (NLe 854, 291) all being property of Mukesh Ray.
No plea was taken by the defendants after the charges were read and explained to them.
The defendants were unrepresented in court and so no bail application was made either on their behalf.
They were remanded in custody until next adjourned date of 16th October, 2025 for hearing.
