Glasgow 2026 has become the first major international sporting event to sign Scotland’s Mental Health Charter for Physical Activity and Sport in partnership with the Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH). The initiative aims to embed mental health and wellbeing into every aspect of the Commonwealth Games.
As an Official Supporter and Official Mental Health Supporter for Team Scotland, SAMH will provide mental health training for Games staff and volunteers, while offering wellbeing services to athletes, coaches, and their families through its mobile support hub, the Wee Nook.
Glasgow 2026 officials say the partnership reflects their commitment to creating a supportive environment for everyone involved in the Games. Team Scotland and athletes have welcomed the initiative, highlighting the importance of mental health alongside physical performance.
SAMH Chief Executive Billy Watson described the partnership as an opportunity to demonstrate how major sporting events can promote positive mental health, making Glasgow 2026 the first Commonwealth Games to place mental wellbeing at the heart of its legacy.
