GLEANINGS FROM GLIMPSES

Must read

By Our News Analyst
“Reading maketh a full man, conference a ready, and writing an exact man” according to Francis Bacon. Those who have been following the writings of Winstanley R. Bankole Johnson can safely draw the conclusion that he is an exact man. His writings as well as those of Andrew Keili on the other side of the political spectrum constitute a feast of reason and a flow of soul. They have lately been giving readers in-depth analyses of current events for which they should be commended. They are our current Wole Soyinkas and Chinua Achebes. That is not to say that there are no other erudite Sierra Leonean writers at home and abroad. In spite of the fact that Winstanley was sure of beating any SLPP candidate like ‘Gbohui or Kanya’ he had accepted the fait accompli and lined up with events as they unfold stanchlessly. The tables have been turned over for now until they are erected again.
In the matter of considering things unsentimentally he comes along with former Vice President Victor Foh who was the first to clearly puzzle myopic members of the APC with a fortnight position on the cooperation or non-cooperation of the party’s members. In this regard Winston wrote “No one now needs refuse to cooperate with the Commissions or proffer excuses to do so because no one will be subpoenaed as an accused person. Everyone will be appearing and testifying as a ‘witness’. So it will be unreasonable for anyone to boycott attendance and only open oneself to summary submissions being arrived at on account of his/her default of appearance.” All patriotic citizens will agree with this position including those APC stalwarts who have been vacillating. I will underscore here his observation that daily broadcasts should not be restricted to selected TV and Radio Networks. He went on to say that many people are interested in them but would rather read about them than spend hours following them on the airwaves. He did not conclude without stating that the ongoing COIs are not the first in the country.
Winston Bankole Johnson’s mind seeths with development ideas and should be encouraged by all means.
