The Deputy Minister of Higher and Technical Education, Turad Senessie, has on Thursday 14th November 2019, revealed to Journalists that, Government has received Twenty Two million United States Dollar ($ 22,000,000) from the World bank to boost Technical Vocational Education and Training in the country.
He made this disclosure while giving an update at the weekly Ministry of Information and Communications weekly Press Conference in Freetown.
Mr. Senessie added that, the neglect of the TVET sector for the past decades has negatively affected the country’s Economic development.
He continued that people should not inculcate the perception that TVET is only for drop out.
He described the output from the Universities over the years as very poor and abysmal.
Government according to him is at an advance stage in reviewing the University Act of 2005, the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) Act of 2001.
He emphasized that Government is reviewing these acts to meet with the existing demands of Education and training across the globe.
He also disclosed that Government is also in a process government of developing a national qualification framework.
Several institutions according to him are running teachers training institutions but lack the blue print to guide the effective management of these institutions.
