GTBank Staff Docked for Stealing Le 900 Million

An employee of Guaranty Trust Bank (SL) Limited (GTBank) on Wilberforce Street, Freetown, Kaifen Kallay is standing trial for allegedly stealing Le900 million from the foreign commercial bank.

The accused is charged with a count of Larceny by Servant contrary to Section 17(i)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the indictment, the accused on Tuesday 30th April, 2019 at the Guaranty Trust Bank (SL) Limited on Wilberforce Street, Freetown being a clerk or servant employed by the bank stole the sum of Le900 million.

The accused was put on Le300 million bail with two sureties who must have title deeds or property in the Western Area.

The accused met the bail conditions but was unable to pay back to the bank the money he promised.

Magistrates Hannah Bonnie restricted the bail of the accused saying that it has long been overdue for him to pay back the money to the bank

The accused was therefore remanded again at the Pademba Road Male Correctional Center.

ASP Ibrahim Sheik Mansaray is prosecuting and the matter comes up on 3rd August, 2020.
