Guild of Newspaper Editors calls for investigation into assault on Night Watch Newspaper Editor by Njala Academic Staff Association

The Guild of Editors Sierra Leone (herein after referred to as The Guild Of Editors) is appalled by reports of assault on the Managing Editor of Night Watch Newspaper by some members of the Academic Staff Association of Njala University during a funeral service held in memorial of the late Ralph Simeon Sesay, former editor of Night Watch Newspaper.

The Guild is particularly concerned and greatly annoyed by this unfortunate incident, and calls for a speedy investigation by the University authorities.

Chairman of The Guild, Donald Theo-Harding said: “Such a behaviour is uncharacteristic of members of an elite Association who ought to know that violence or mob justice has no place in our society. We, therefore, join the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists in calling on Njala University to speedily investigate the assault on our colleague by its members and to take the appropriate disciplinary action on those found wanting.”

The Guild remains committed to upholding the canons of journalism and assures the general public of its unflinching commitment to responsible journalistic practice in Sierra Leone.
