Guoji Safety Standards Questioned

By Donstance Koroma

Investigation carried out by this medium have discovered that Guoji Investment and Development Company Limited, situated at Cline Town, is placing its workers in harms-way as International Safety Standards and best practices are not closely followed by the Company.

A case in point is the action of management to force workers involved in offloading huge quantities of corrugated iron sheets any time they are procured from overseas. A very anonymous source has even intimated this medium that a worker has suffered serious injury when a bundle of corrugated iron sheets fell on his feet. These workers, according to our investigation, attract over time according to our labour laws.

Sources very close to management have informed this medium that the Company is more than capable of hiring the services of a caterpillar to offload these materials, but would rather exploit the workers to do this job in very inhumane circumstances that jeopardize the wellbeing of the workers and grossly violate their basic human rights to a safe and sound work environment

Guoji workers have put the blame squarely on the Human Resource Manager, Tommy Sam, who they described as the virus for the workers as he is depriving them from many facilities due them simply because he speaks Chinese.

Presently, the Company Security Guards are bitter with the Human Resource Manager because he had refused to pay them their benefits after termination of service and has also forced them to append their signatures to another six months contract agreement that they were not allowed to comprehend before signing as protocols demand.

According to the Human Resource Manager, Tommy Sam, all those services that were terminated were fully paid according to the labour law and any of the workers that have appended their signature are fully aware of what is stated in the new contract agreement.

The Guoji workers have also expressed mixed feelings as to why their monthly salaries have been reduced owing to the fact that they are no longer entitled to benefit, hence the reason they think their salary should be skyrocketed in their new contracts.
