Former NRA, Haja Kallah
By Ralph Sesay
The Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA, Samuel Jibao, has told newsmen in Freetown that the former Commissioner General of NRA, Haja Kallah, has left a debt of Le 8.7 billion in goods and services at the Commission before she left.
The NRA Commissioner General was reacting to press reports that the decision to probe into the affairs of the former Commissioner General was a witch hunt. He disclosed that, as any serious Chief Executive will do when he assumes office, he called for a system audit of the financial governance of the NRA together with assets verification.
The financial audit, the Commissioner General noted, was done by the internal audit of the NRA within a month and the report of the audit was, according to him, very risk bearing.
Dr. Jibao noted that he presented the report to the Board and they advised that he should present his findings to the ACC for investigation. He used the occasion to also brief newsmen on developments at the Authority, which he placed under the short and medium term.
It will be recalled that the former Commissioner General was invited by the NRA on allegations of corruption but was later released on bail pending further investigation.
