Honorable Rosemarie Bangura formerly of Constituency 055 and now Tonkolili District 006 has been named among the fifty most influential women in Sierra Leone.
This recognition of Hon. Rose Marie comes at the 8th Edition organized by the Kids Advocacy Network Sierra Leone.
Hon. Rose Marie Bangura name was among One Hundred (100) other women randomly selected across the spectrum including politics, business, advocacy, education, entertainment, etc., by an established network set up by the Kids Network and her name on nomination, polled Two Thousand and Eighty-Eight (2, 088) votes landing her fourth in the ranking of this year’s Fifty Most Influential Women in Sierra Leone.
In an exclusive interview, Hon. Rosemarie Bangura expressed appreciation for the recognition, noting that it must have come out of consistent and close monitoring of her activities by the Kids Advocacy Network Sierra Leone over time. She is current a Member of Parliament representing Tonkolili District 006 under the ticket of the All Peoples Congress (APC) party.
Hon. Bangura is currently the Vice President for Women- in-Parliament and a member of the Pan African Parliament serving as the Rapporteur for the West Africa Caucus, a position she has held from 2022 to date.
Hon. Rose Marie Bangura is the Vice Chairperson of the Tuberculosis Caucus Pan Africa Parliament and also the Vice President of the Female Caucus in the Parliament of Sierra Leone. She was first elected to Parliament in February 2017 representing Constituency 055 in a bye- election to complete the elected term of the then elected late Honorable Tawuru T. Koroma. She was however re-elected Member of Parliament representing the same Constituency in the 2018 Proportional Representation System for Tonkolili District.
Hon. Bangura has described the recognition as “a good one and an impetus for motivation to keep working hard and diligently for her Constituents, women and children and for humanity in general.”
Honorable Rosemarie Bangura is a doer-an action-oriented politician who believes in using her political power and influence to improve the lots of women and children. She has initiated and continues to progress with a number of empowerment programmes in the various communities within her political area to ensure the economic independence of women through empowerment programmes such in agriculture, skills training for youths and providing scholarship assistance to deserving students and pupils in her various communities.
Her humanitarian and philanthropy does not go directly to individuals and groups; she also supports religious organizations and places of worship including Churches and Mosques.
She expressed gratitude to the All Peoples Congress (APC) party for providing her the platform to be able to undertake impactful programmes and activities in her various communities and also for availing to her the privilege of holding various political positions within and outside the Parliament of Sierra Leone. “I believe, I have reached these milestones because of the grooming and mentoring I have been receiving from the APC party,” she acknowledged.
She also thanked the party executive, supporters and the people of Tonkolili District for their unflinching support to her and the APC party and for the reserved confidence they have in her as their own and the trust they have in her leadership. “I appreciate them and I will keep holding strong to ensure I don’t betray their trust and confidence in me,” she assured, making it clear: “I wouldn’t have reached where I am today without you.”
Hon. Rosemarie Bangura described the works of the Kids Advocacy Network Sierra Leone in the country as “laudable” pointing out that their observation and monitoring of the works of individuals in relation with their aims and objective as an organization seeking the welfare of kids, has put several Sierra Leonean women on their toes so they would not plummet below the standards for which they have been recognized in their service to children, women and humanity.
“We who have been recognized as Influential Women because of our activities at improving the lives of women and children through empowerment; we will not default; we will not under perform; we will strive to build on everything that could have prompted our recognition in the interest of humanity,” Hon. Rose Marie Bangura stated.
