House Breaking matter committed To Court

House breaking matter presided over by Magistrate Hannah Bonnie has been committed to High Court for trial.
House breaking is one of the felonious offences known to the Sierra Leone criminal law. The law demands that magistrates conduct preliminary investigations into such matters and commit them to High Court if sufficient evidence is adduced by the prosecution.
The accused, Moses Amara was standing trial at the magistrate court for an alleged breakage offence to wit: Shop breaking and larceny involving Le5.1M.
The offence involves the breakage and entry into any building with intent to steal. The larceny Act of 1916 prohibits the offence.
During committal proceedings, Magistrate Bonnie explained that the prosecution called four witnesses to support their case and the accused made confessional statements to the police.
She also said she had looked at the entire evidence and satisfied that the accused person was fit to stand trial at the high court.
The accused remanded in custody owing to the absence a credible to stand surety.
The police charge sheet indicates that the accused person on Saturday 17th August 2019 at Ascension Town Road in Freetown broke and entered into the shop of Fatmata Kamara and stole quantities of assorted phone accessories valued at Le 890,000 eight Bluetooth valued Le 960,000, one MP3 valued Le15,000, 214 DVD plates valued Le 640,000 and other valuable items all to the total value of Le5.102M.
The matter pending at the High Court of Sierra Leone.
