“I Really Want You People To Work As An Executive” – NOC Chief Urges Taekwondo Association

By Barrie Alpha

The President of the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone (NOC-SLE), Dr Patrick Coker, has urged the Sierra Leone Taekwondo Association that he really wants them to work as an executive and that it’s not only about a one man show, but team work that will help the sport to develop in the country.

The NOC’s Chief made this plea on Friday 23 September 2022 during the Sierra Leone Taekwondo Association’s courtesy call to presents their newly elected Executive to the National Olympic Committee at Howe Street in Freetown.

He said that he was pleased Taekwondo has conducted their election and they have an executive, meaning that they’ve decided to work together and work forward, adding: ‘When you have a one-man executive you will have a problem.’

He went on that, ‘I really want you people to work as an executive and I don’t need to see one person all the time. I hate to go to ceremonies where only one person is performing all the functions on behalf of the others. This is not the way association should function so if you people have gone through and you’ve accepted positions and you are willing to work, I hope and expect you to work.

‘So let it be an executive as the word says and not only a man-man show but a team work that will help the sport to develop in the country.  Usually it is not that the President wants everything, it’s so things will not fail. The President will have to find him or herself having to do everything all over so that things will go well; so I hope and pray your president will have your support and Taekwondo will be among the associations that function well. Congratulations once again!’

In his statement on behalf of the Sierra Leone Taekwondo Association, Mohamed Barrie, the National Secretary General, expressed his thanks to the Executive of the National Olympic Committee for their presence during the Elective Congress on 25June 2022, and formally introduced the newly elected nine-man executive of the association to the committee.

The nine-man executive includes Oness Abayomi Johnson, President; Janet Bockarie Alie, as the Vice President; Patricia Wesley, Treasurer; Jaffa Mans-Davies, Public Relations Officer1; Mohamed Abu Conteh, Public Relations Officer 2; Umuru Bundu, Assistant Secretary General; Ibrahim Yansanneh, Organising Secretary; and Chrispine Ekundayo George as Ex-Officio are in charge of running the affairs of the association for the next four years.
