ICC Chief Hails Chairman Samura’s Impact on Cricket Development

Chairman of the International Cricket Council, Jay Shah, has praised the Chairman of Cricket Sierra Leone, Francis Trevor Samura, for what he described as remarkable leadership in the development of cricket in Sierra Leone.

Shah made the commendation in a congratulatory email sent to Samura on the occasion of his birthday on Wednesday.

In his message, the ICC Chairman wrote: “Wishing you a fantastic birthday filled with happiness, good health and success. Your leadership in cricket administration continues to inspire and uplift the sport, and we truly appreciate your dedication and passion.

“May this year bring you even greater achievements and joy, both personally and professionally. Enjoy your special day to the fullest.”

Samura’s birthday coincided with the early stages of Cricket Sierra Leone’s nationwide Women’s Cricket Celebration initiative, which aims to bring more than 38,000 girls into the sport. The 27-day programme is already underway, with three days of activities completed across participating communities and schools.

Meanwhile, Sierra Leone’s Senior Men’s National Team, known as ‘The Patriot’ will battle host Botswana in the opener of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-regional Qualifier on Saturday, May 23, 2026 in Gaborone. On Sunday, May 24, the Men’s Patriots will take on Cameroon before facing bull dogs Kenya on Tuesday, May 26.
