Despite repeated calls for the abolishment of secret societies in Sierra Leone such as ‘Poro’, ‘Ojeh’, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and the likes and the subsequent ban by the new Government in Sierra Leone the practice still continues unabated. Traditional authorities have continued to condone the practice subjecting young boys and girls into such secret societies.
This is exactly the ordeal that David Bangura, a young Sierra Leonean aged 24 years had faced in Foredugu, northern Sierra Leone. He was conscripted into joining the poro society against his wish.Reports secretly unearthed by this medium from a credible and independent source has stated that, David was literally forced by his uncle in order to replace his late father in the ‘poro’ society. The family of the young man had agreed that David must succeed his father in the secret society after his demise.
Our source further maintained that David’s formerly a petty trader died in mysterious circumstances sometimes in August, 2018. David after his father death was all over the place trying to maintain his father’s business.The Family of David’s father had decided that he was yet very young to inherit his father business since he was not yet of age.His uncle the key machinator of the plan was looking forward to inherit the business.David our source continued was opposed to the idea of relinquishing the business to his uncle. Having faced such a resistance from David over inheriting his father’s business the uncle hatched a plan to get rid of David by hiring the services of the poro society members.
David was forcefully whisked off to the poro bush to join against his wish even when he stoutly resisted the able gallant poro members .He had no option but to join .At the ‘Poro’ bush David experienced a lot of horrible sights and inhuman treatments.The poro members had used live snakes to frightened victims, others were forced to eat human excretion after having been severely beaten for acts of disobedience inside the ‘poro’ bush.
One fateful day, while in the poro bush,David was asked by two society members to accompany them around the vicinity of the ‘poro’ shrine. The poro men had used the occasion to show David the several graves among which was that of his father “this is the grave and place where we killed and buried your late father due to his recalcitrant attitude to obey orders of the ‘poro’ hierarchy if you too disobey our orders, we will do likewise to you” the poro men stated.
Our source further revealed that after David after having heard such statement became furious and hit one of the ‘poro’ men, he fell unconscious and David had to ran away from the scene. He was chased but they failed to capture him.
Following his escape, he fell over a bridge and a sustained severe injury which was later treated by an unknown savior.This medium could not ascertain the exact location of David after his escape.
Reports reaching this medium have disclosed that these ‘poro’ men are desperately in search of David and have vowed to lynch him to death if they lay hands on him.His pregnant wife according to reports also went into hiding for fear of her own life that. She is of the strongest conviction that ,if David is not found they will come back looking for her in order to avenge their anger. David is not alone in such a predicament as there are many other victims who had faced similar situation. Victims who ran out of luck have been re-captured by these ‘poro’ men. They have ended up losing their lives while some suffer strange diseases that have no cure.
