Hon. Rose Marie Bangura of Constituency 055 in the Tonkolili District has said in Parliament that President Bio should give attention to the development of the transportation sector in the country.

The MP made this statement while   participating in a five day debate of the President’s maiden address at the Well of Parliament.

She noted that transport is the livelihood of the economy all over the world, noting that the lack of a vibrant and up running transportation would adversely affect the performance of the economy.

Rose Marie Bangura pointed out that during the reign of former Ahmad Tejan Kabbah the country’s road network was deplorable, noting that this has been given a boost under the ten years rule of President Koroma. The MP also commended former President Koroma for his legacy around women’s empowerment.

The female MP highlighted the fact that the price for goods is largely dependent on the nature of the roads where such goods are transported from.

“We want to see more roads in this new dispensation so that transportation cost will cut down and there will be increase in goods that enter into markets in the city,” she added.

She urged the Maada Bio New Direction to invest more on the road sector.

Her colleague from Constituency 037 in Bombali District, Hon Catherine Zainab Tarawalie, also noted that an improvement in the transportation sector will boost the Agricultural sector in the country and increase food production.

Both MPs were taking part in a five day debate at the Well of Parliament in which Members of Parliament from the ruling party were lavishing praises on the speech of the President, while their colleagues from the main opposition were extolling the legacy of former President Koroma in the road, health and energy sectors.
