IS DEVELOPMENT A ONE MAN SHOW?

Must read

We are as closer to development as life is to her elder sister, death. Yet, thinking that development is only an affair of a political party in power is a complete mismatch that can only be corrected by the individuals. We have been intensely praying that ‘political/social scientists’ to soon start propagating a nationwide sensitization on development: including among other things that how best an individual, a group or community sustain a positive novelty is but an added value to the development endeavors for a country. Rome, the old say was not built in a day, but that aside, the first positive step is the difficulty! If we must know, the biggest problem in the country is the way we think. We need a strong and tireless revolution to polish our thoughts because all else depends on it!

We are really tired of conjectures on how our beloved country will look like in the near future; we want to see situations where every little effort towards development is protected collectively.  We call them conjectures because they only flowering in black and white but in local content policy agreement/expectation, nothing has been keenly supportive to the imagined Sierra Leone.

To our greatest disappointment too, our people, in recent times have generated gluttonous love for dancing and praise singing even for things that do not require it; it seem like dancing and praise singing has been instituted into the norms and values to shield sustenance from those who controlled survival – politicians.

In recent times too, tension among supporters of political parties keeps heightening and daily insult and quarrels flower. As things unfold in our presence, we have recordings of actions that were spawned out of others: loyalists confronting one another on many insignificant things, skirmishing ordinary banners and disfiguring portraits of candidates (during political campaigns), simply because in one or two instances, other loyalists purportedly did same to other icons. We don’t want to see such reoccurrences anymore! Let the campaign begins now!

Fellow countrymen and some politicians must bear in mind that in politics, it is like we are in a midst of a workshop stored with prickly instruments: we can promote iniquity with all the instruments, unless we take noticed later, but on the positive hand, we can do good with all the instruments if only we practice how to employ them.  Let us therefore teach all supporters how to employ political instruments very well, so that we will never incur the wrath of others.

We rather want to see a situation where the educated and wise endeavor to bring light to every doorstep; we are imagining a situation where an impressive number of our country’s population becomes as critical as Plato; we want to see a situation where the voters vote based on critical analysis – judging that since manifesto ‘A’ failed to factored this or that policy, they were not going to vote for the political party in question; we are imagining a situation where countrymen shun political rallies due to very tight work schedules. We are tired of situations, where everyone escaped office duties to make up mammoth crowd in political rallies in a bid to protect their jobs; we are tired of situations where people demonstrate ardent support because they are benefiting directly from a political party!  If our forefather did lay the foundation for egocentricity, it is high time we changed it, or give fewer ears to the rain of blame that awaits us from the generation unborn!

You want to agree with us that such political atmosphere does not befits us; and seeing one another as adversaries is something we have never prayed for! We are uniformly optimistic that actors behind such anathema will sooner realized and support advancement for the good of all.

Action for action, regardless of the degree, does not change the past: we must learn to forgive and be free. Forgiveness is freedom!
