IT Engineer Arraigned In Court For Theft

Ibrahim Kabia, an Information Technology engineer at Leone Construction and Engineering Company on Wednesday, 4th February, 2026 made his first appearance before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah of Pademba Road Court No. 1 on allegations of theft of properties valued Le 30, 000 being properties of the said company.

The defendant was arraigned on four counts charges, including larceny by servant, contrary to Section 17(1)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

The indictment states that the defendant between 3rd and 6th October, 2025 at the Leone Construction and Engineering Services office situated at No. 36 Bathurst Street in Freetown, Kabia being a clerk employed by the company allegedly stole the sum of Le 3,500, property of Leone Construction and Engineering Services.

The indictment further states that Kabia also allegedly stole Le 10,000 and an additional Le 7,500 from the same company.

The indictment ended that Kabia on 10th October, 2025 allegedly stole one 55 inches Samsung plasma television valued at USD 1,350 and one LG monitor valued at Le 800 also properties of Leone Construction and Engineering Company. The total value of the alleged stolen properties valued at 33,950.

When the charges were read and explained to the defendant, no plea was taken.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Mabel Tarawally, Esq. informed the court that the defendant’s counsel had been served with the case file pursuant to Section 98(1) of the Criminal Procedure Act of 2024.

The Defence Counsel, I. Kargbo acknowledged receipt of the file and in pursuant of Section 76(1-c) of the Criminal Procedures Act No. 8 of 2024, applied for bail on behalf of the defendant, stating that he is a Sierra Leonean resident within the court’s jurisdiction, with reliable sureties ready to enter into recognizance.

Magistrate Jah however granted bail in the sum of Le 50,000 with accompanying conditions that include two sureties in like sum who must be residents in Freetown and they should each produce a valid national identification card that clearly shows their addresses and they should be gainfully employed. The Magistrate further ordered that the bail must be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar. The matter was adjourned to 6th February, 2026 for further proceedings.
